Esther
Gokhale (go-clay) graduated from Princeton with a degree in biochemistry and earned
her C.A. from the San Francisco College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. After
personal struggles with back pain, unsuccessful back surgery, and a dismal prognosis,
she began what would become a lifelong dedication to understanding and addressing the
root causes of pain. After a five-year study and certification in Aplomb®,
a French movement re-education technique, Esther traveled to Africa, Asia, Europe,
and Latin America to study posture and movement in populations with a low incidence
of back pain. She also continued her academic studies, taking courses in anatomy and
anthropology at Stanford. Her education, training, and research enabled her to develop
a unique, systematic method of restoring pain-free posture and movement, which she
teaches at her Palo Alto clinic. Her technique is now detailed in her first book, '8
Steps to a Pain-Free Back’. She currently divides
her time between her family, teaching and training in the Gokhale MethodSM ,
the design of products to support healthy movement, speaking engagements, and ongoing
research and data collection. |

 Debby
has been studying and practicing the Gokhale Method SM for
over twelve years, after using it (with acupuncture) to heal from a traumatic pelvic
fracture. Not only did what she learn alleviate the pain she had in her pelvis
and lower back, but it helped her move more comfortably and confidently in her
everyday activities. She has resumed an active lifestyle as a black belt in Tae
Kwon Do and has been competing on the USTA tennis team for over five years. A California-licensed
registered nurse with orthopedic and intensive care unit training, Debby brings
years of medical expertise working with patients of all ages to her position as
a Gokhale Method SM Instructor. |

 Magdalena
began her training with Esther 15 years ago. She began her training as a teacher
because she was excited by the method's abilities to improve people's quality of
life. In 1996, after four years of study, she earned her certification in Aplomb ®,
and has since worked on refining her skills as a teacher in the Gokhale Method SM.
She received her Masters in Social Welfare from UC Berkeley in 1985. She has spent
over 20 years working with children and their families, which has prepared her
well for the task of teaching. In 1988, she founded an environmental education
preschool, to teach children about and immerse them in the natural world. When
not busy teaching, she loves to spend time fitness walking, doing yoga, and dancing. |

 Rita
Czamanske began her training with Esther in 1995. After three years of study, she
earned her certification in Aplomb ®,
and since then has been training and refining her skills in the Gokhale Method SM.
An avid runner, Rita began competing in 5 and 10 km road races and later in National
Masters and Senior Championship Track meets. When she hung up her track shoes after
10 years of age-graded competition, she had earned National and world-class ranking
in the 800 meters, and had helped set a world age-group record in the 4 x 400 m
relay. However, years of carrying her four children on one hip, and improper stretching
form over the years of running had led to a host of pain issues: back problems
at L5, numbness in her left leg, low back and sciatic pain. Since learning healthy
posture and movement from Esther, her back pain has disappeared and her L5 problem
no longer requires regular treatment. She is now enjoying an active retirement,
after 18 years as an Executive Assistant to top-level managers: playing tennis,
skiing, and backpacking with her husband, spending time outdoors with her grandchildren
and step-grandchildren, and exploring Choreocomos dance and non-falling Aikido.
Rita is delighted to be an Instructor in the Gokhale Method SM.
From personal experience, she understands the positive impact healthy posture can
have on life, regardless of age, and believes the work is essential for an active
life free of pain. |

Julie Dorsey received her BFA degree in Dance from the University of California at Irvine,
and danced ballet professionally for a number of years in Los Angeles. She later
taught ballet, modern, and jazz dance at UC Santa Cruz, with a focus on body position,
line, and alignment. Julie has been studying posture with Esther for 10 years,
and appreciates the compatibility of Esther's posture method with many of the basic
dance disciplines she has practiced throughout her adult life. She also applies
proper posture technique to her avocation as an avid knitter. Julie lives in Atherton
with her husband, their 12-year-old daughter, and their two older children (when
they're home from college). |
